Hello

Familiarity Doesn’t Make a Place Any Less Beautiful

Hi! My name is Daisy, and I’m a watercolour artist from Aberdeen, Scotland.

For me, the purpose of painting isn’t to paint places that are obviously beautiful. It’s to paint the places that we see so often that we forget how special they really are, the places we pass every day without stopping to look.

I want my paintings to be a little reminder to slow down and appreciate the beauty that is already around us. The bright red of Merkland Stand, the grandeur of His Majesty’s Theatre, the distinctive architecture of the Beach Ballroom, these places can become so familiar when we see them over and over again that we stop noticing them.

But familiarity doesn’t make a place any less beautiful.

Through my paintings, I hope to capture the little details, memories, and feelings that make these places special, and perhaps encourage you to look up and see them a little differently the next time you pass.

I paint the places we Aberdonians have come to know very well so they can stay with us for the rest of our lives, no matter where we are.
